Caroline Herschel is credited as discovering this emission nebula in 1787 , and which surrounds a bright star cluster known as NGC 7380. She was the sister of the famous astronomer William Herschel as well as the aunt of John Herschel.

She is considered one of the original professional woman astronomers and discovered hundreds of comets and nebula. Like many other women scientists her accomplishment were often attributed to her male counterparts.

The Wizard nebula and star cluster are located in the norther circumpolar constellation of Cepheus, the King, and is typically visible high in the sky in  September- November in the northern hemisphere. This image was shot from my Ottawa  backyard during several clear nights using specialized narrowband filters in September 2025.

 The red, blue and orange are the colour representations of Hydrogen (red) Oxygen Blue and Sulphur (orange) emitting form the nebula). The SHO  RGB palette  chosen (red  for sulphur, green for hydrogen and blue for oxygen) is  the palette favoured by the Hubble telescope images.
